“When a dog loves you, the hole in your heart is forever filled.” – Angie Crosby

Well hello there! My name is Maxine. I’m a 10-year-old female boxer and I weigh about 50 pounds. If you’re looking for an easy dog, I’m the pup for you! I’m already spayed, fully vaccinated, and potty trained. I need a little help with my leash training because I’m not used to it yet, and I’m not crate trained because I haven’t needed to use one (I don’t show any signs of separation anxiety). I’m a happy old dog and these are my golden years. I’m so excited to find someone to share them with!

The Cantu Foundation rescued me from Mexico. I had been in a bad living situation, most of my life I was kept in an outside hallway so small that I could barely turn around, and when I first got to my foster home I was too stressed to move or eat very much. I was recovering from surgery and still figuring things out in my new environment. But it took less than a week for me to come out of my shell. I started eating well and would get excited to go for morning walks around the park. I love to lay in the sun in the garden and nap. I’m also slowly bonding with my foster family’s dog. I have some leash reactivity that I’m working in and I’m starting to do better. When meeting new dogs, I do need a proper introduction (and I haven’t met any cats), I love all people… kids included! My favorite thing is when they give me a good scratch behind the ears or on my back.

For the most part, I’m pretty calm and sleepy throughout the day. I don’t have a ton of energy, but sometimes when I get excited I’ll jump around or get the zoomies! Since I am a senior dog, though, my foster family only takes me for short walks. That way I won’t get worn out. Going for walks is one of my favorite things, along with eating, napping, and hanging out with my people. For my forever home, I really hope I go somewhere where I’m the only dog in the house (I would love all the attention on me during my golden years). I’d be happiest with someone who works from home but I’m also okay with being home on my own. Just make sure the trash is put away before you leave, or I’ll get into it! I’d also do well with a family with kids.

Do you think you’d like to open your home up to a sweet old girl like me? You can apply to adopt me at http://www.thecantufoundation.org/adopt.html. My adoption fee is $150, which will cover the cost of a microchip when I’m ready to go home with you. That money will also pay for the vaccinations and spay surgery that I’ve already had. I hope you’ll consider adding me to your family. I have so much love to give!
