Hewo der! My name is Benny! I am a handsome, 48 pound labrador retriever mix who’s neutered, fully vaccinated, and about 2 years old. I am so lucky to have been rescued by the Cantu Foundation. I was saved from the scary ESLR shelter in TJ in 2025 and have been with TCF for about 6 months before finally finding a foster home. Now I am on the hunt for a loving family to call my own.
Here's why I’m a catch:
A Great Roomate: I am fully potty trained and learning to settle in my crate. I also walk well on a leash and am a great listener overall.
Sweet & Gentle: I’m a big sweetheart once I feel comfortable (you’ll know from my happy, wiggly butt!). I love slow chin and head scratches, tasty treats, and going on walks. When I trust you, I’ll follow you around with a wagging tail and the biggest smile. My foster mom describes me as gentle, happy, and easy to have around.
Dog & Cat-Friendly: I really enjoy other doggos (just give me a proper intro), and having a dog sibling around has boosted my confidence. Another foster who watches me when my regular foster is on vacation says I always do amazing with their cat!
A little more about me:
I’m a pretty chill dog who will match your energy throughout the day. My foster mom works from home and says that she’s never been more productive — I just lounge around with my doggo sibling. My moderate energy comes out most on walks, when it’s meal time, and when I greet you—I get really happy to see my people! I enjoy calm public outings and I’m still getting used to car rides, but I do okay on shorter trips.
My favorite things to do are going for walks, relaxing near my humans, and following my foster mom around (but soon to be YOU!). I’ve made huge strides since being in a foster home. I can be a little shy and scared when meeting new people, but I’ve become so much braver about receiving pets! I’ll need a little bit of time to trust you in a new home, but I’ll happily cuddle nearby once I’m comfortable.
I have SO much love to give! I can get nervous and run way, bark, or grumble if someone approaches too quickly. I’m submissive and can be skittish, so I’ll need your help to get comfortable on my own terms. If you give me the space to relax, a quiet spot to decompress, and some treats along the way, you will see my true sweet, loyal self open up. It won’t take me too long!
What's my dream home?
I'd do well in just about any size home and would be stoked if my furever humans work from home or have a flexible schedule. I don’t need a yard because walks make me so happy! Having another confident dog sibling with me would be a bonus. But what matters most is a little patience and a loving space where I can continue to grow and feel secure.
I’m currently being fostered with a 6-year-old human and am learning that gentle kids can be my friends. If there are smaller humans in the home, I’d do best with older kids who understand I get scared with sudden movements, loud stomps, or squeals.
My adoption fee is $400. This fee covers my first year of vaccinations, neuter, and microchip. Think we'd be a perfect pair? Apply to adopt me at www.thecantufoundation.org
