Hey you! My name is Benny! I am a handsome, 48-pound Labrador retriever mix who’s neutered, fully vaccinated, and about 2 years old. I am so lucky to have been rescued by the Cantu Foundation when they took me in from the scary ESLR shelter in Tijuana. Now, I’ve just been patiently waiting for a loving family to call my own—are you The One?
Here's why I’m a catch:
A Great Roommate: I am fully potty trained, crate trained, and not destructive. I also walk well on a leash, and my foster mom says I’m a solid listener and easy to have around!
Sweet & Gentle: I’m a big sweetheart once I feel comfortable (you’ll know from my happy, wiggly butt!). I love slow chin and head scratches, tasty treats, and going on walks. Once I trust you, I’ll follow you around with a wagging tail and the biggest smile. My foster mom describes me as gentle, happy, and even a little goofy at times.
Dog & Cat-Friendly: I really enjoy other doggos (just give me a proper intro), and having a dog sibling in my foster home has boosted my confidence. Plus, another foster who watches me when my regular foster is on vacation says I always do amazing with their cat!
A little more about me:
I’m a pretty chill dog who will match your energy throughout the day. I’m not your typical high-energy lab who wants to barrel around the house 24/7. My foster mom works from home and says that she’s never been more productive—I just lounge around with my doggo sibling. My moderate energy comes out mostly on walks, when it’s mealtime, and when I greet you (I can’t help but get really happy to see my people!). I enjoy calm public outings and I’m still getting used to car rides, but I do okay on shorter trips.
My favorite things to do are going for walks, relaxing near my humans, and following my foster mom around (but soon to be YOU!). I’ve made huge strides since being with my foster family. I can be shy and scared when meeting new people, but I’ve become SO much braver about receiving pets, even when I’m out and about. I’ll need a little bit of time to fully trust you in a new home, but I’ll happily cuddle nearby once I’m comfortable.
I can get nervous and run away, bark, or grumble if someone approaches too quickly. Just know that I have all the love to give once I’m used to my environment. I’m submissive and can be a bit skittish, so I’ll need your help to get comfortable on my own terms. If you give me a quiet space to relax and decompress—and some treats along the way—you’ll see my true sweet, loyal self open up. I promise it won’t take me too long!
What's my dream home?
I'd do well in either a house or apartment, and I don’t require a yard since walks make me so happy! I’d thrive in a home where my humans have a flexible schedule or aren’t typically gone for long stretches of the day. While I don’t necessarily need someone who works from home full-time, I do best when I have plenty of companionship, consistency, and routine. Having another confident dog sibling with me would be an added bonus, but I think I can learn to be okay without one. I just need a human on my team who’s able to give me reassurance!
I’m currently being fostered with a 6-year-old human and am learning that gentle kids can be my friends. If there are little humans in the home, I’d do best with older kids who understand I get scared with sudden movements, loud stomps, or squeals.
My adoption fee is $300. This fee covers my first year of vaccinations, neuter, and microchip. Think we'd be a perfect pair? Apply to adopt me at www.thecantufoundation.org
