Hewo der! My name is Benny! I am a male, 48 pound, labrador retriever, about 2 years old. I am neutered and fully vaccinated. I am so lucky to have been rescued by the Cantu Foundation. I was saved from the scary ESLR shelter in TJ in 2025 and have been with TCF for about 6 months before finally finding a foster home. Now I am on the hunt for my furever family!
Here's why I am amazing:
Well-Behaved: I am fully potty trained and crate trained. I am also doing very well with leash training and learning commands.
Sweetheart: I adore meeting new dogs and I am a big, happy sweetheart once I get comfortable with my hoomans. Treats, gentle pets on the head, and walks win me over! Once I like you, I follow you around with the biggest smile and wags. My foster mom describes me as sweet, gentle, and happy!
A little more about me:
My favorite things to do are playing with my foster brother, going for walks, and napping near or following around my foster mom (but soon to be YOU). I love other doggos with the proper introduction. Although, I am not sure how I am with cats and little hoomans, maybe with gentle interactions we could be friends. I have mild anxiety when meeting new people and am mostly independent. I’m described as a chill doggo and will match your energy throughout the day. I’m learning how to be trusting and affectionate, but when I feel brave I love to cuddle near you. My moderate energy comes out most on walks and playing with my foster brother (I’m still learning how to play with toys but I think I like fetch!) I enjoy public outings that aren’t too loud and I’m still getting used to car rides (I'm ok on shorter trips).
I want love SO badly but given my traumatic past, I need your help to build trust first! I can get nervous and bark, grumble, or run away if someone approaches too quickly. I am very submissive and skittish, so I will need some time to get comfortable on my own terms. If you give me the space to relax, a quiet spot to decompress, and some treats along the way, you will see my true sweet, adorable, loyal self open up. I warm up quicker to women than men but am getting more confident every day.
What's my dream home?
I'd do great with a yard and a relaxing space to curl up. I'd love other dog siblings and I can be good for a family or a single person/couple who work from home. I could also do a smaller house because I really just want a safe space to call home.
