Hi there, I’m Harvey — a 2-3 year-old, 41-pound Hound mix with soft eyes, a big heart, and an even bigger love for long walks and belly rubs. I’ve had quite the journey to get here, but I’ve never lost my gentle spirit or zest for life.
I was found living on the streets in Mexico, too scared to let anyone near me. One amazing volunteer spent weeks gaining my trust, and once I was rescued, it was clear I needed medical help. I had a diaphragmatic hernia that required surgery and time in the ICU, followed by a tough round of chemotherapy to treat TVT. But guess what? I made it through — and I’m finally getting the chance to just be a dog again.
Some of my best traits (if I do say so myself):
🐾 Loyal and loving – I adore being close to my person and thrive on companionship.
🎾 Playful and silly – I throw my toys for myself and chase them like a champ. I’m basically my own best playmate!
🚶♂️ Adventure-ready – I walk over two hours a day and love exploring new places at a steady pace.
🐶 Dog-savvy – I get along with most dogs, but I do best with ones who respect my space. Bulldogs and other flat-faced pups aren’t my cup of kibble.
🧸 Affectionate – I’m a cuddle bug with a goofy streak and love nothing more than snuggling up after a good walk.
I’m fully potty trained, great in the car, and don’t need a crate. I’m doing well living in an apartment — elevators, people, dogs, and all — but I would also love a home with a balcony or sunny yard where I can snooze in the sun. I’ve done well around kids, but due to one incident involving a young child who didn’t respect my space, I’d prefer a home with children 12 and up who understand that even the goodest boys need boundaries.
I’ll need a family who will be patient with me during the adjustment period, as I can be unsure in new places.
